Travel the world (without leaving City Lit’s third floor!)

CityLit is one of those Adult Learning Centres which gives you the opportunity to learn about almost anything!

Whether you’re looking to to top up your practical skills or refresh your knowledge in a particular subject – there’s a course there waiting for you!

Last year I enrolled on a short course in Radio Presenting at CityLit in Holborn, London. This course offered basic radio presenting knowledge suitable for beginners or those needing a recap, plus vital presenting practice which was a confidence booster. Radio Presenting is now another practical skill I have along side my BA Journalism training.

I asked the course tutor, Allis Moss, to keep me updated on follow-on courses. Here’s the latest news from her:

‘Be a Radio Foreign Correspondent’ starts this Wednesday Jan 15th. It’s a brand new course, which will be more in-depth than the basic radio presenting course at City Lit.

Explore working up material from different countries – breaking news, arts/culture, travel features, conflict zones and so on. There’ll be a practical brief for the mic each week. In the first week, students will produce a piece of reportage for the BBC’s From Our Own Correspondent.

For those of you who want to build on your writing/on-air and studio skills or general confidence at handling a variety of subject matter for different audiences this might be for you.

The course is 2 hours a week from 12.45 to 14.45 and runs until April 2nd.

The course details are:

DM067 Be a radio foreign correspondent/reporter, 15 Jan – 02 Apr, Wednesday, 12.45 – 14.45, 12 weeks. Full and Senior fee Β£176 or concessionary fee Β£88.

This course would be perfect for me as it combines my interest in travel/foreign news and offers the opportunity build on my radio presenting skills further. Unfortunately it clashes with my lecture at university. If this course sounds like one for you, don’t delay, get in touch with a course advisor at CityLit today!
