While putting up my campaign posters in the London College of Communication (LCC) canteen, I spotted Beyza Ucak – Central Saint Martins (CSM) MA Communication Design student reading the Arts London News (ALN). She said in her 4 years studying at University of the Arts London (UAL) this is perhaps only the 3 or 4 time she’s picked up the ALN…
Much of it is due to insufficient distribution Beyza told me as she sat having her lunch at (LCC). A few stories grabbed her attention, one of them being the article on UAL Chelsea alumnus Steve McQueen claiming top BAFTA for his critically acclaimed film 12 Years a Slave. Beyza mentioned her tutor rated it as a “must watch” yet she still hasn’t seen it.
The MA student choses to dine at LCC as it’s closer to home than CSM. I think it’s great that students can use many of the facilities available of different UAL college sites.
I have to give it to the ALN team – 3rd year journalism students, this week’s edition is probably my most enjoyable read of all the ALN editions. For once it felt like it was written for art students – economics or politics students in Oxford! From fashion to capoeira – this edition is creative and diverse just like it’s readers in London…
And I’ve got a small part in there too! Taryn Nixon’s travel piece on ways of travelling on the cheap was a refreshing read – students travel too! Why haven’t we been seeing more travel pieces? My quote about couchsurfing is in there… Looks like I’ve got my name in the paper before I even start writing for it – nice!
Check out Taryn Nixon’s article about travel on the cheap in the latest issue of ALN.
My campaign posters are up on the walls of the canteen (a designated area). If you haven’t already voted you can do so online or in college at LCC. Be sure to make your #1 Vice President choice Kai Lutterodt! #Kai4VP and lets see more cross-course collaboration and a diverse representation of students with the Student Union (SU).
