With Karin Askham – Dean of School of Media at LCC

You can imagine my surprise when I was approached by a lovely lady with a bright and radiant smile in the hall way of the Media block, who said she’d read my blog.

Wait.

Does anyone even read my blog? I thought I was writing for myself, a memoir of my uni days at the very least. So assuming the lovely lady was perhaps a media student like myself, I expressed my gratitude. I was flattered.

However seconds later, after asking what course she studied, I discovered the lovely lady with the radiant smile is in fact the Dean of the school of Media at London College of Communication (LCC) – Karin Askham.

Well, finally! It was nice to put a face to the title.

I took the opportunity to inform Karin about my campaign for students union Vice President of LCC to encourage cross-course collaboration – outside the (box) lecture room. LCC houses all the facilities students could possibly need for making projects and building portfolios which go beyond assignments. Not to mention the potential funding both in-house and from outside organisations desperate for fresh ideas from students. I’m trying to encourage more of such initiatives within a social environment… Who knows, we have a social “meet and greet” of all the Deans in LCC we’ve heard of – but never met!

And I’m grateful that Karin took the time to listen to what I had to say about my BA Journalism course and my tutors, despite heading towards the exit of the college when we met. Plus I managed to get a photo with my Dean – I needed proof that I could finally put a face to the title DEAN! How refreshing it is to connect with a female hierarchy of LCC on casual level.

I’ll be back again with a more in-depth post about the Dean of the Media school at LCC. I know where to find Karin now so maybe an interview for my blog could be on the way!
